Carwan Gallery presents a solo exhibition of the Lebanese artist Georges Mohasseb during NOMAD Venice. “Future Memories” is an ode to brutalist architecture, decorative functionality, and imagined memories.
It’s a city created at the intersection between the imagination of Antonio Sant’Elia, the Italian Futurist architect from the turn of the century and the visionary world of Italo Calvino’s “Invisible Cities”. Made out of an innovative material: oxidized concrete, known as Metallium R, the pieces naturally create a rusty controlled durable finish, allowing each piece to continue to tell a story as each
day passes, all the while reminding us of time passing. Each piece in the collection is named after a place visited by Marco Polo, Calvino’s hero. “Future Memories” is an imagined future inspired by the fantastic stories of the past.
