Linde Freya Tangelder | Rooted Flows: Solidified Reflections
Polidefkous 39, Piraeus, at Carwan Gallery Athens | February 24th – April 9th, 2022
The project is the result of a collaboration between Linde Freya Tangelder, Carwan Gallery and IN Residence under the cultural patronage of Cassina. It features the publication of the designer’s first illustrated monographic book, written by Barbara Brondi and Marco Rainò and published by NERO Editions, and is presented alongside the designer’s body of work conceived in Turin during the residency program together with her first product designed for Cassina in a solo show at Carwan Gallery.
Rooted Flows: Solidified Reflections includes pieces made with bent metal and lost-wax casting of aluminium, which echo the designer’s interest in the Modernist tradition as well as the roots of European architecture. Modular and textured pieces, some in solid wood and glass, are a reference to the art of masonry and stone-cutting, and reveal the lightness and tactility in the designer’s approach.

Linde Freya Tangelder
Antwerp, Belgium
Within the works of Linde Freya Tangelder, founder of Antwerp based studio Destroyers/Builders, an interaction between the furniture pieces exists in an overarching inspiration; found in architectural elements, materials or building techniques.
Linde Freya Tangelder strives for sensory relevance and cultural value in detail and on a larger scale. The works have a sculptural and architectural character, and balance between contemporary and traditional elements.
Inspired by architectural shapes, the furniture pieces highlight the field between industry and human, through diverse materials. Constructions are scaled down to human sizes, and translations result into sculptural gestures.
Both low and high end materials get re-valued, reconsidered and transformed. The interventions and finishes by hand, give these architectural objects a tactile aspect. The contrast in materials, the touchability, and the human traces that are still visible in the object, explain the method of Linde Freya Tangelder.
